Before Christmas we got rid of paci (pacifier).
It was intended for naps and bedtime but more and more Tristan
was sneaking it out of his crib and had it with him while he played.
Well one day he lost it and we couldn't find it before nap time.
But lo and behold he fell asleep without it.
That's when I decided he didn't need it anymore.
I told Tristan that it was gone and I think that the Paci fairy came and took it.
The only problem-now that its lost I have to find it before he does...
I looked and looked with no success.
Again he went to sleep just fine that night without it.
The next day Tristan and I were playing and we both spot the pacifier at the same time.
It was in the front seat of one of his trucks.
Immediately we both reach for it. I got to it first and instinctively tucked it into my pocket.
Then I look into those sad puppy eyes and say,"oh the paci fairy must have brought it
back so you could say one last good bye.
I let him have it and let me tell you it resembled something like an addict taking
one last puff or drag or whatever.
After a while he takes it out to do something else and I sneak it into my pocket. Later, I threw it in the garbage along with a couple other ones that were left so they wouldn't show up again.
He forgot about it and didn't ask about it for days.

Then finally on day 2 or 3 (when mommy was at work) he asks daddy, "where paci is?" Daddy explains that its gone.
to which he replies,"Oh, mommy tooks it."
(Great! Now he's going to have to explain his resentment of his mother to his therapist some day)
It's been weeks now without paci and he still tells daddy that mommy took paci in her pocket.

(He wasn't buying the paci fairy story one bit)
Since then he has found security in 3 random stuffed animals.
They are with him for every
nap and bed time.
They include a teddy bear (which Tristan calls a tummy bear), a monster, and a zebra.
You can take the paci away from the boy but he'll just find something else to cling to.
(At least the dentist will approve of the stuffed animals.)
